BE KIND Project – A Sustainable Warehouse Model in Carlow Town

The BE KIND Project, launched in May 2020, is an innovative initiative in Carlow Town that addresses social, environmental, and economic challenges through a sustainable warehouse model. Carlow County Development Partnership as the implementing body for the SICAP, RSS, Leader, and Tús programmes, utilise its resources for this project that embodies a commitment to community resilience and environmental awareness.

Core Objectives of the BE KIND Project

  1. Waste Reduction
    • The project focuses on minimising waste generation through robust recycling programmes and the efficient management and redistribution of donated items.
  2. Resource Conservation
    • By repurposing sustainable materials and giving them a second life, the initiative promotes the conservation of natural resources and reduces environmental impact.
  3. Social Responsibility
    • The project emphasises supporting vulnerable individuals and families in Carlow while creating employment skills opportunities with the Tús and RSS programmes within the community.

Supporting the Community

The BE KIND Project accepts donations from the generous people of Carlow and collaborates with local agencies to identify individuals in need. Here is how the process works:

  • Referrals: Vulnerable individuals are referred to the project.
  • Needs Assessment: Referred individuals have the opportunity to identify their specific needs.
  • Dignity and Respect: The initiative prioritises the dignity of all participants, ensuring privacy and discretion in its services.

Practical Support Services

  • Collection & Delivery: Donated items are collected and delivered discreetly using unmarked vans, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Appointment Times: Staggered appointment slots allow individuals the time and privacy to access the services they need without feeling rushed or exposed.

The BE KIND Project has made a significant difference in the Carlow community:

  • Hundreds of Thousands of items donated and repurposed.
  • Support provided to more than 1000 families in need.
