ESTABLISH A NEW COMMUNITY GROUP/STRENGTHEN OUR EXISTING COMMUNITY GROUP

From time to time we receive inquiries from a group of people who are passionate about a particular area or interest and who want to formalise the status of their group. We are also asked by existing community groups to help them strengthen their committee structure and clarify their vision and objectives. We welcome such inquiries and can assist by working with your group to develop key documents including constitutions, work plans and to clarify roles and responsibilities of committee members. We also support community groups to register with the Carlow Public Participation Network (CPPN). If you would like to formalise the status of your group or strengthen your existing community group please contact Joanne Donohoe

WE WANT TO CONSULT WITH PEOPLE AND GROUPS IN OUR COMMUNITY

Consulting with people and groups in your community is the best way of ensuring that the community is aware of and is supportive of your initiative, particularly if you are depending on their take up of the product/service to ensure sustainability. There are many ways of consulting with the people in your community including questionnaires, public meetings, focus groups, on-line survey’s etc. The LEADER programme can potentially give assistance in the development of a consultation process – please contact Clare O’ Shea to see if your group qualifies.  Also, the SICAP Development Workers can provide mentoring and support in the development of groups leading up to the writing of a Community Plan. WE HAVE LOTS OF IDEAS BUT ARE NOT SURE HOW TO GET STARTED

Starting a community project can sometimes be difficult, particularly if there are a number of good ideas identified. In these circumstances, we have found the best approach is to develop a Village/Group plan which sets out priorities, timelines, responsibilities, budgets etc. It is important that people in your community buy in to your groups priorities and as such, consultation with people in your community is a critical element of getting a good start (see section We want to consult with people and groups in our community). If you would like assistance with developing and implementing a group/village plan please contact Clare O’ Shea.
