The Tús scheme provides very valuable support to community groups around County Carlow and this is of huge benefit in areas which have a strong Tidy Towns presence.  Tús workers support the maintenance of green areas and planted areas, while keeping the community tidy and litter-free. This use of the scheme has supported different communities around Carlow over the years while giving a daily structure and building confidence in the participants through the learning of new skills.

  • Supported the Clonegal Tidy Town Association to develop the village, assisting them to represent Carlow and Ireland as the National village entry in Entente Florale 2013.
Clonegal & Kildavin

Assistance from the LEADER programme aided in the upgrade of a rural walk, developing a DVD to market the town and publication of a tourism brochure. Clonegal Tidy Village Association received the gold Entente Florale medal in the competition.

The RSS scheme has one participant maintaining the Crann a Bhán holy well in Kildavin, which has welcomed pilgrims since medieval times and where until recently coffins were dipped before burial in Barragh graveyard. This has made a huge difference to the site which is visited by pilgrims during the month of May and is a popular tourist attraction throughout the rest of the year.
